The Alan Norris Big Band consisting of 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, piano, bass and drums, is a real traditional dance band playing standards the 1940's made famous by bands such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw and many more including Buddy Rich and Ted Heath.
With a library of over 600 tunes the band can provide a programme for any occassion from social dances to Mayoral Balls and themed concerts. With Alan in front with the baton, the band has two resident singers each with considerable experience with music of the genre and connecting with an audience.
Whilst specialising in music from the 1940's, the band can if required present a wide variety of modern popular music to entertain all ages and musical interests.
Hire charges for the band will depend not only on the logistics of our travel to your venue, but also on the date and playing time required. We will be pleased to discuss your event to agree not just financial terms, but any special music you might require to ensure the success of the occasion.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Alan Norris Big Band was formed twenty-one years ago and now is the leading amateur Big Band in the area. The Big Band has performed with many leading people in the Big Band world such as Don Lusher (Trombonist with the Ted Heath Band and Tommy Whittle (Saxophonist from the Stan Kenton Band) to name just two. The band is known all over East Anglia and plays to sell out audiences wherever they go.
Alan served in the 1st Bn The Royal Anglian Regiment from 1961-1987, finishing his last two years as a WO1 (instructor) in the Sultan of Oman's Land Forces Band. The ANBB was formed in 1993 with local amature and ex-professional musicians..
The band comprises of sixteen musicians, plus male and female singers and conductor , Alan Norris. The band is supported by P.A. equipment and sound engineer.
The band plays for concerts, playing traditional Big Band plus many more for dances, the band plays Quick Steps, Waltzes, Foxtrots, Sambas, Cha-Cha's, Rhumbas and Sixties Rock and Roll if required.
